Hanging by a Thread

"Hanging by a Thread" was a temporary installation at Harella House during the London Design Festival. The piece celebrated 100 years of Harella House's vibrant contribution to craftsmanship in the Clerkenwell neighborhood. Reflecting layers of architecture, art, texture, color, and sustainability, it weaves together local history, culture, and community.

The individual strands are “sewn” around modified closet standards attached to the outer edges of the truss cords and woven in tension back and forth to create floating planes of color and geometric complexity.

As a nod to the building, which housed one of the most prolific textile exporters in the UK during the 20th century, as well as the architectural features and character, we chose commonplace materials to create a simple yet dramatic sculpture by knitting colored hemp twine within the roof trusses.
